REU receives five-year renewal

The National Science Foundation awarded $123,380 to Bigelow Laboratory to support ten students in its "Undergraduate Research Experience in the Gulf of Maine and the World Ocean" this year. Directed by Dr. David M. Fields, the grant was renewed for five years, supporting ten students each year.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences' first Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program began in 2009 with a cohort of eight students. The Laboratory has successfully competed for funding and has hosted students in each subsequent year. The current award starts May 1, 2015 and ends April 30, 2020. The total award is expected to total $650,042.

Ten REU students will arrive in East Boothbay in June to begin the ten-week program that runs from June 8- August 15 that provides them the opportunity for direct immersion in research. To learn more, [140]click here.
