Research Interests

As a satellite oceanographer specializing in ocean optics and remote sensing, my research is focused on understanding the optical properties and dynamics of marine ecosystems. Specifically, I am interested in how the color of the ocean’s surface can provide insights into specific optically active ocean components such as phytoplankton and dissolved organic matter. By leveraging remote sensing technology, I aim to develop new techniques for monitoring these components and predicting their impacts on the marine environment. Currently, my research focuses on investigating the optical properties of copepods in the Gulf of Maine and how remote sensing can be used to study these key zooplankton species. By uncovering the hidden optical properties of marine ecosystems, my research can help ensure the sustainability of our oceans for generations to come.
