Research Interests

I am a microalgal physiologist whose research bridges fundamental questions in algal biology, ecology, and evolution with innovation in sustainable algal production and industry applications. I am particularly interested in understanding how microalgae allocate resources among competing physiological and ecological functions, how these trade-offs shape their evolutionary strategies, and how interactions among species, especially those mediated by chemical signals and bioactive metabolites, influence ecological dynamics.

My research integrates experimental approaches in algal physiology, chemical ecology, and experimental evolution to investigate these fundamental questions. I also seek to translate insights from basic research into biotechnological applications by developing improved algal strains and cultivation strategies to enhance productivity and the synthesis of valuable compounds. Through this integration of fundamental and applied research, I aim to advance our understanding of microalgal biology while contributing to sustainable solutions in food production, agriculture, and the blue economy.
