About Alex Herger

Alex Herger is a retired energy executive with more than 40 years of experience in global oil and gas exploration. Born and raised overseas into a diplomatic family, she developed an early appreciation for international perspectives that shaped her passion for global business, cultures, and travel.

With an M.S. in Geology, she has built a distinguished career identifying and developing energy resources across diverse international regions, with deep expertise in exploration strategy, basin analysis, and organizational leadership. She concluded her professional career as Vice President of Global Exploration at Marathon Oil, where she led worldwide exploration efforts and oversaw multidisciplinary teams responsible for evaluating and advancing major resource opportunities. During her tenure, she played a key role in shaping the company’s global exploration portfolio and long-term growth strategy. She currently serves on the board of directors of Panoro Energy and Tortoise Capital Advisors, bringing her industry expertise and strategic insight to both organizations.

She has been recognized as one of the top 275 women in the global energy industry, reflecting her leadership and impact in a traditionally male-dominated field. Since retiring in 2014, she has remained engaged in issues related to energy, the environment, and the responsible stewardship of natural resources. She resides year-round with her husband in East Boothbay, Maine, where she maintains a strong interest in ocean science, conservation, and global environmental challenges related to an energy transition. In her spare time, Alex enjoys sailing, gardening, and skiing.
