How to Apply

Current Program Schedule

The 14-week Program runs during the fall semester, from early September to mid-December.

Program Fees

The program fee is equivalent to the comprehensive fees for Colby College. Students are billed by Colby, and are exempt from the $1000 study abroad fee. The fee covers tuition, room and a food allowance. Books, meals during vacation periods, insurance, and personal travel are not included. A forfeitable deposit of $500 is due at the time of acceptance.

Juniors with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 who have taken at least three lab science courses and one semester each of chemistry, biology, and pre-calculus/calculus are eligible to participate.

Students of all academic disciplines who meet program requirements and are interested in hands-on lab work and Ocean Science or Policy are welcome to apply. Past students who have participated in the program have had a variety of majors, including Chemistry; Psychology; Art; Biology; Science, Technology and Society; Geology; and Environmental Science. The most important component needed is a genuine curiosity about how the ocean works and how scientists unravel its many mysteries.

To Apply

If interested, Colby students should contact the Colby Campus of Off-Campus Study. Students at other colleges or universities should contact Dr. Nick Record, Senior Research Scientist at Bigelow Laboratory and Program Director of the Colby at Bigelow program.
