Each year, the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (BLOS) awards THE MAUREEN D. KELLER UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP to a promising Maine student who intends to pursue a Bachelor's degree in the biological or earth sciences.
The $1,000 scholarship honors and remembers Dr. Maureen Keller and her dedication to quality research and education in the field of oceanography.
The Keller Honor Roll:
We ask that you:
We ask that all applications be in our hands by midnight of the third Friday of May, each year.
We look first at the academic record: grades of course, also things like academic achievement awards, science fair prizes. We then look for evidence of success at "life". For example: social or economic barriers overcome, community activities engaged in. The kinds of things that tell us "here is a smart and energetic person who has an excellent chance of becoming a valued scientific colleague".
The scholar may spend the funds on any aspect of education. This includes tuition/fees, books, housing, research, equipment, etc. We do not restrict the scholarship to U.S. citizens, or require that the scholar attend a U.S. school.
You will need three items:
You may download the application form (.pdf format 300kb ). If you have software that will let you modify .pdf files, do that and send us the form as an attachment (.pdf format, please). Otherwise, print it out, fill in the information and mail it to us. Or, you may ask us for a paper copy of the form, fill that out and send it to us by mail. If you use electronic options, you will need to send, or arrange to have sent, your transcript information and reference letters separately. If you use paper mail options, you may either enclose transcripts and reference letters with your application, or tell us clearly that you have arranged for these documents to be sent to us separately.
