Research Interests
I am interested in global biogeochemical cycles of the elements. I have focused on sediments in continental shelf and slope areas of the oceans and their impacts on carbon and nitrogen cycling with the ocean system. I have extensively studied shelf areas such as the Gulf of Maine, the Washington shelf, the eastern Mediterranean shelf regions, and the shelf areas around Alaska. I have participated in and led scientific cruises on all sizes of research vessels off of five continents, having spent over 600 days at sea between 1974 and 1995.
